This project was an early study in single-family infill design. The program called for 2 new homes on vacant lots in the Blue Hills neighborhood, a streetcar suburb of Kansas City, Missouri.

The design seeks to compliment the form and spatial relationships of the existing bungalows and four-squares by maintaining neighborhood scale and making use of porch elements that address the street. At the same time, contemporary tastes are alluded to by incorporating private outdoor courts and asymmetrical roof-lines.

Detached garages and a grand sidewalk entrance promote pedestrian-first lifestyles and pay respect to the neighborhood’s history as a transit-oriented suburb.

The final product included two sheets of ink-on-mylar presentation boards and a 1/8″:1′ scale model. The model included articulated elements for better study of the homes’ interior spaces.
